About this camp
Summer Intensive is three days on Baylor's campus in Waco, training in the same gyms the Songleaders train in. Days start early with conditioning and technique: across-the-floor, turns, leaps, kicks, and the flexibility work our team does year-round. From there, athletes rotate through pom, jazz, and hip-hop blocks, learning real Songleader choreography and sideline material from our current roster and coaching staff. Afternoons are built around performance, with small-group cleaning, film review, and reps in front of a room so athletes get used to being watched. Campers are grouped by age and skill level after the first morning's evaluation, so everyone trains where they'll actually improve. Evenings are the Baylor part: dinner in the dining hall, a campus and facilities tour, and time with our student-athletes talking through what a season here really looks like. The camp closes with a final showcase in front of our staff.
The payoff
Athletes leave with cleaner technique, three styles of choreography in their body, and a much clearer picture of the standard collegiate dance is held to. They'll get individual feedback from our coaching staff on exactly what's working and what needs attention before audition season, the kind of specific, honest evaluation that's hard to get anywhere else. Beyond the training, campers leave knowing how our program operates, what we look for, and whether Baylor is the right fit for them. Every camper finishes with film from the showcase they can use in a recruiting video, and every camper is on our recruiting radar afterward. For dancers serious about competing collegiately, this is the fastest way to go from a name on a list to an athlete our staff knows.
Who it's for
Summer Intensive is built for high school dancers ages 14 to 18 who are already training seriously and are considering dancing in college. You should have a solid technical foundation, meaning you're comfortable with across-the-floor work, turns, leaps, and picking up choreography quickly in a group setting. Studio dancers, high school drill and dance team members, and competitive dancers all fit here. Rising juniors and seniors get the most out of it because of how directly it connects to recruiting and auditions, but motivated freshmen and sophomores who want to know what they're working toward are welcome and will be grouped accordingly. This is not a beginner camp and it is not a low-intensity week. Expect long days, real physical demand, and honest feedback. If your athlete wants to be pushed and wants to know where she stands, this is the right room.
